Privacy & Terms

Two separate documents for RumyFriend Jr, the games service for children aged 4–12. You do not need an account to read either one.

Effective date: 15 September 2026 · Version 2026-09-15

Status of this page

This page is in effect from the date above. It describes what RumyFriendJr does today, not what it is planned to do.

Two things are still being worked on, and we would rather name them than leave you to discover them:

  • We do not yet verify that you are the parent. Linking a child’s account records your agreement, but it does not yet check your identity through one of the approved methods. Until it does, we do not treat that record as verified parental consent, and we say so here rather than implying otherwise.
  • Messages are not reviewed by a person before they are delivered. We block links, email addresses and phone numbers from a child’s conversation automatically, and we read every report — but nothing screens an ordinary sentence in advance.

Children’s Privacy Policy

RumyFriendJr is intended for children aged 4 to 12. A parent or guardian sets the account up, and this notice explains what we collect from a child, why, who receives it, and how you control it.

What a child’s account holds

InformationWhy we hold it
A player name (first name only)So friends can recognise your child in a game and in a message.
An account identifier created at sign-inTo sign your child in and attach their games and friends to the right account.
An avatarShown in place of a photograph. Children who are not confirmed friends see an illustrated likeness, never a photograph.
Friend connections and connection codesTo run the friends list, and only for the friends a parent has permitted.
Messages your child sends and receivesTo deliver them, and to act on a safety report.
A notification tokenTo send your child’s device a notification. It is stored privately and is not readable by other members.

What we do not collect

  • No location. The Jr app does not ask for location permission, and the permission is removed from the Jr build on both iOS and Android. We do not calculate distances between friends and we do not build a location profile for a child.
  • No advertising. There is no advertising in RumyFriendJr, no advertising identifier, and no advertising software in the app.
  • No analytics product. No analytics or crash-reporting software is included in the app.
  • No date of birth, surname, phone number or email address is collected from the child during Jr setup.

The games, and what they see

Each game is a separate web page that the app opens. When your child opens a game, that game is told the account identifier and the player name, so it can greet them and record a score against the right player. The child’s photograph is never passed to a game.

Some games show a scoreboard, and a score recorded under a player name can be visible to other players of that game.

Who else receives information

We use Google Firebase to sign accounts in and to store the information above, and to deliver notifications. Our games and website are delivered by hosting and content-delivery providers, which process ordinary connection information such as an IP address in order to serve and protect the service. We do not sell a child’s information, and we do not share it for advertising.

Your rights as a parent

You can ask us to show you what we hold about your child, ask us to delete it, or withdraw your permission for us to collect it at all. There is never a charge for this, and you never have to install anything to make the request.

How to request review, deletion or withdrawal →

If you withdraw permission, we stop the collection it covered. If you ask for deletion, we delete the child’s account and the information held against it. We may keep a limited record where the law requires it or where it is needed to handle a safety report or keep a blocked contact blocked, and we will tell you what we kept and why. A message already delivered to another person’s device is on that device, and deleting an account here cannot reach into it.

How long we keep it

We keep a child’s information for as long as the account exists. When you ask us to delete the account we delete it, and you do not have to wait for a scheduled clear-out for that to happen.

We keep a limited record for longer in two cases only: where the law requires it, and where a safety report needs it while that report is being dealt with. We will tell you what was kept and why. We are not going to quote you a fixed number of days here, because we would be inventing it.

Changes

If we change what we collect, why, or who receives it, we will give clear notice. Where a change requires fresh parental permission, the new collection will not begin until we have it.

Terms of Use

These Terms are between RumyFriend LLC and the parent or guardian who sets up a child’s account. “You” means that parent or guardian. They are separate from the terms that cover the adult RumyFriend service, and none of those adult terms apply here.

1. Who may use RumyFriendJr

RumyFriendJr provides games for children aged 4 to 12. A parent or guardian must set the account up. RumyFriendJr does not include Meet, Action Plans, paid personal services, or any arrangement to meet another member in person.

Some games may place your child in a session with other players, including adults. Playing a game alongside somebody does not by itself allow them to message your child privately or to see your child’s profile.

2. Parent controls

You link your child’s account from the parent area, and from there you choose which optional features are available to them. Photo sharing and location are off until you turn them on. You can change any of these at any time, and turning one off takes effect immediately, including for conversations already open.

Parent controls and safety reporting never require a paid subscription.

3. Player names

Use a player name rather than your child’s full name, school, address or phone number. We may restrict a name that is misleading or inappropriate. An account or a confirmed friendship is not a guarantee of anybody’s identity or conduct.

4. Friends and messages

Your child can connect with another player by sharing a connection code. Both sides must accept before anything is connected.

Direct messages are one-to-one and text only. Attachments, voice, video, group messages and location sharing are not available in a conversation involving a child, and this is enforced by our servers, not only by the app.

Messaging is available only between confirmed friends, and only while you have messaging switched on. Either person can block the other from the conversation, and blocking stops further messages in both directions.

5. What is not built yet

We would rather list these than let the sections above imply them:

  • There is no automated message filtering and no human moderation team reviewing messages as they are sent. Safety reports are read by us and acted on; they are not screened in advance.
  • There is no separate approval for individual adults, no separate teen category, and no activity log for parents.
  • There is no subscription. RumyFriendJr has nothing to buy.

When any of these ships, this page changes first.

6. Rules for everyone

Harassment, bullying, threats, hate, impersonation, scams, sexual content, grooming, encouragement of self-harm, and attempts to get around protections for children are all prohibited. Do not ask a child to keep contact secret, and do not try to move a conversation off RumyFriendJr.

We may remove content or restrict an account, and we may preserve or report information where the law requires it. No system prevents every harmful interaction. RumyFriendJr is not an emergency service — if a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number.

7. Ending it

You can delete your child’s account at any time, and you do not need to reinstall anything to do it. We may restrict an account for safety, fraud or a breach of these Terms, and we will explain why where doing so does not compromise another child’s privacy or an investigation.

8. Legal

We own the app and the games; your child may use them for ordinary personal play. Nothing here removes rights that cannot lawfully be removed, including consumer and children’s rights, and nothing here transfers our legal duties to you or your child.
